Managed IT: is it right for your SMB?

August 14, 20266 min read

Running your IT in-house takes time and skills. Many SMBs have little of either. Managed IT answers this : a provider takes care of your IT, in your place. Here is how it works.

Managed IT, in plain terms

It means you delegate the management of your IT. A provider takes on all or part of your estate : workstations, servers, network, software, security and user support. You pay a flat fee, often monthly, and you keep the decisions in your hands.

What it usually covers

  • Monitoring of the equipment and the backups.
  • Updates and security.
  • Support when a user has a problem.
  • Advice on the changes to plan for.
  • Handling of failures and incidents.

Each contract is set to your needs. You can delegate everything, or only part.

The benefits for an SMB

  • A single contact who knows your setup.
  • Predictable costs, instead of emergency spending.
  • Fewer failures, because problems are caught before they break everything.
  • Time given back to your teams, who focus on their work.

The signs it is time to consider it

  • Your failures keep repeating and cost you.
  • No one in-house really has time to manage the IT.
  • You are not sure about your security or your backups.
  • You are growing and your IT struggles to keep up.

How to choose one well

Ask the provider the right questions.

  • Who answers when I call, and how fast ?
  • What is included, and what costs extra ?
  • How are my backups managed and tested ?
  • Can I get my data back and leave easily ?

A good provider answers clearly, without jargon.

Our approach

We often start with an audit to understand your situation. Then we propose follow-up sized to your organisation, not too much and not too little. You keep control, we handle the day to day.
